Earth Sun Moon and Stars by Julie McKenzie this is a nonfiction book with the essential question how the objects in the sky seem to move presented in four chapters let's begin chapter 1 verse and the sun a planet is a large object in space we live on planet Earth one side of Earth sister Sun it is daytime for that side but on the other side it is nice the Earth spins once a day during the day the sun moves across the sky the sun is high overhead in the but in the evening the sun is low in the sky Sunset is when the Sun goes down it can be colorful and beautiful chapter 2 the Moon who is Earth's closest neighbor in space in orbit around the Earth the Moon looks different throughout the month sometimes the moon is big and bright and sometimes it looks like a fingernail the Moon looks different at different times of the month a full moon is when you see the whole circle during a half moon only has two men is visible a new moon is when the moon is totally dark sometimes you can only see a little sliver of them chapter 3 the stars at night the sky is full of stars the Stars you see at night are far far away the sun is also a star but it is much closer to Earth all those stars are big and bright is our sun but they just look like Points of Light sailors use the Stars to know which direction to travel when they were at so you can see patterns in the Stars sometimes they look like animals people want you stars like a map because the patterns help them know which way to go stars are big and bright like the Sun but they are far away chapter 4 the seasons the Earth spins once a day but the Earth also orbits the sun once a year this long journey helps make the seasons in summer the days are longer go outside on a summer evening does the sunset in summer days are long and nights are short summer days can get hot in Winter days are short and nights are long the sun goes down early in Winter doesn't get us high in the sky it can be much colder outside in the winter in fall and spring days and nights are about the same length spring is a time when the winter ice melts and flowers bloom in the fall many leaves fall from the trees many Amazon Earth depend on the sun in the spring leaves change color in the fall
