Enrichment & Intervention

Academic Support

To support students’ academic success, students return each day after lunch for additional instruction. In our elementary classrooms, this time may be dedicated to small groups for reading and math. In our middle school classrooms, students focus on one academic subject each day in LEAP Hour. All SJ Tech teachers support students in various ways during this time, and students should follow the schedule specific to their grade and teacher.

Enrichment Labs

Both our elementary and middle school students have additional enrichment opportunities that take place during the school day. These Enrichment Labs help students build relationships, deepen curricular and real-world connections, and foster a lifelong love of learning. Offerings may change year to year and include a rich variety of content, including eSports, coding, science experiments, creative arts and crafts, career exploration, and more.

For our elementary students, offerings vary by teacher and may occur once per week/month/quarter. Each teacher will communicate the schedule for their Enrichment Lab offerings.

For our middle school students, Enrichment Labs take place every Friday and are offered in a hybrid format. This allows students to choose if they’d like to attend in-person or online. Throughout the year, students will rotate Enrichment Labs and work with different teachers, giving them the opportunity to experience different activities and topics that connect to their core content learning.

STEAM Labs

In addition to our intervention and enrichment oppor tunities, we’re pleased to offer additional interest-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Labs. These extracurricular opportunities are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis and may require students to come to campus to participate.  There are multiple offerings per year, each lasting 6-12 weeks, and are sent out via ParentSquare.

  • Art Electric (Grades K-8)
  • TinkRsynth (Grades 6-8)
  • Drones (Grades 3-8)
  • BricQ Motion LEGO
  • Edison Robots

Makerspace

We’re also pleased to offer a makerspace, a collaborative workspace for students with a variety of maker equipment, tools, and supplies. Our makerspace includes 3D printers, Cricut machines, heat press and textiles, button maker, knitting and crochet materials, and supplies for building, construction, arts, and crafts.  We’re always adding to our makerspace and our materials and offerings are based on student interest.

The makerspace is open after school and selected Saturdays throughout the year, with updated information available via ParentSquare monthly.
